This morning, I set out to write a new piece that built on my original “Some Cigars…” article. The difference with the new one was that I wanted it to be more reflective, rather than naming a bunch of cigars that fit the point I was making. And then I wrote the first point.

Some cigars don’t ask anything of you other than to enjoy them.

I often find myself picking apart the flavors when I smoke a cigar. But there are some moments where a cigar tells me to stop what I’m doing and just take in the experience. No mental gymnastics. No active observation. The only requirement to participate is showing up.

And then it hit me.

That’s what smoking cigars is all about. Enjoyment.

When I wrote the first point, it didn’t come from me searching my mind for something to say. I was smoking a La Aurora Preferidos 1903 Ruby. From the moment I lit it up, it felt like gentle hands on my shoulders, willing me to relax and clear my mind. What I wrote was in response to that.

And there was a certain finality to it.

I didn’t have to write about anything beyond it because it captured why we smoke cigars in the first place.

All the discussion, analysis, and research distilled down to the thing we strive for. Enjoying our cigars.

This has been a great reminder for me to simply let go.

To stop trying to pull something out of the cigar. To stop turning every experience into something that needs to be analyzed, categorized, or explained.

To just sit with it.

Because not every cigar needs to be understood. And when I let go and just show up—that’s when the cigar gives me the most.

Yessir! We forget to just enjoy them. I grabbed a 1903 Preferidos Broadleaf for a midday break and just enjoyed the heck out of it. Was exhausted from an already long work week so just shut the mind off (to the extent possible) and enjoyed a great stick. I need to do that more often!

Welcome!

Cigars aren’t static.

They move, evolve, and reveal themselves over time.

This is a place to explore that experience—along with the people, ideas, and forces shaping the cigar world around it.
