For years, I’ve been trying to capture crystals on the surface of a cigar, but to no avail. But this afternoon, I was able to do it by having my camera close enough to the cigar, that it was slightly out of focus. The entire surface of the cigar is dotted with these little crystals of flavor goodness!

When I think of plume, I think of this. I’ve never seen a cigar encrusted with crystals to the point that it forms a fine layer of dust. But I have seen this phenomenon before, and it means one thing: flavor bomb!

Here’s a link to my review from last month: https://stogiephile.blog/2026/09/16/review-privada-killer-cameroon/.

I really like it. It’s smooth and complex, and the Cameroon Negro wrapper delivers plenty of stone fruit, which you get at light-up thanks to the pigtail foot. Overall, the smoke is thick and rich, with espresso, dark chocolate, bread notes, and a lifting spice that keeps things interesting.

That said, I have a feeling it’ll need a lot of home aging. Even after almost six weeks in my humidor, I feel it has so much more to offer, so I’ll revisit it in six months.
