Nubbin’ It!

That there nub is from an Oliva V Melanio I smoked last night. While I will take most of the cigars I like down to about an inch or inch and a half, very few earn the honor of being smoked down to the nub. I don’t smoke every V Melanio down to the nub either. But sometimes there are some special, individual sticks that come out of my humidor that I just can’t get enough of.

Like I said, it’s not every V Melanio I smoke. But this a blend that it happens with more often than others. Off the top of my head, I think the blends I nub the most are:

  • Oliva V Melanio / V Melanio Maduro
  • Oliva O / O Maduro
  • Oliva G Maduro
  • Ave Maria Argentum
  • Martinez NYC Blend
  • Man O’ War Puro Authentico
  • Padron ’64 Natural/Maduro
  • Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 / Vintage 2nds

There’s no particular order in the list above and it’s not exhaustive. I didn’t include Diesel Vintage nor AJ New World, but even based on my limited experience with these blends, I can tell right now that I would probably smoke those down to the nub. Those are exciting cigars and I can’t wait to receive the boxes I ordered of them!

One of my sons asked me why I smoke some of my cigars down to the nub, remarking that he finds the last couple of inches of a smoke too harsh. I told him that under the right circumstances – and the blend has a lot to do with it – some cigars just get better near the end. Yes, the flavors are intense, but they’re so good that I don’t want to stop smoking them.

Besides, smoking some cigars is like having incredible sex. You don’t want it to end so you edge as long as you can! :)
