I’m sitting in my backyard smoking a sublime Oliva Series G Maduro in between meetings. When I started smoking the cigar I had about an hour and 15 minutes until my next meeting. I was debating whether or not to like this big Churchill up because I may not finish it by the time the meeting starts.

That’s okay. I often have to relight even robustos now and then because I run out of time before I have to do something. I just smoke my cigars at a low rate.

I’ve always been that way. I actually thought my smoke rate was normal until I had a few herfs with friends and they all seemed to power through their cigars.

But to each their own. My puff rate is roughly a minute to 2-3 minutes in between puffs. And admittedly, I’m actually quite mindful of that. I believe that part of the reason for this is that I like the aroma of the smoke coming off the foot. It’s kind of like incense. For me, the smoking experience isn’t just taking puffs it’s also enjoying that wonderful aroma.

I think it’s also a big reason why I enjoy the cheap sticks that I smoke. For instance the Cusano M1 has a wonderful aroma. It’s slightly spicy and I love smelling the fragrance of its burning foot while it sits in my ashtray.

All the Oliva sticks I smoke have a gorgeous fragrance off the foot. The G I’m smoking right now has a dark chocolate aroma. It’s wonderful!

Here I go, waxing philosophically again… A great smoke will do that to me.

Update 11:30am – Nope, I still have over 2 inches left and I have to go to my meeting! :)
