It’s a cold and dreary day today and in a break between meetings, I wanted to have a smoke. I didn’t want something heavy. I didn’t want something too complex. I didn’t want to spend my time contemplating the nuance in the smoke. What I wanted was a great, high-quality, uncomplicated smoke that I could enjoy with a hot cup of coffee.
Several of the cigars I have in my various containers could fit the bill, such as the Oliva Black Swan or Man ‘O War Puro Authentico. I almost went with the Puro Authentico but then my gaze fell upon my little pile of Monte Whites. Yeah, I needed some Dominican time.
Despite the stick being rated medium- in strength, there’s a richness in flavor and a creaminess that mask its relative strength or lack thereof. All in all, it’s simply enjoyable and has been a stalwart in my collection.
Moreover, it is a consistent blend from stick to stick. When I smoke one, I know exactly what to expect out of it. It is always the same! It is always reliable. These days QC is so good that most marcas’ blends are consistent, but Montecristo is the epitome of consistency and that is reflected in the White Label.
My personal favorite vitola is the #3 Especial. I feel this size best brings out the sweetness of the Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrapper. I’ve had other vitolas, but I always go back to this one.
And one of the best things about this stick is that it can be had for $4/stick and less. What’s not to like?
