I wrote in my CI review that Rolys were a bit of a cheap, guilty pleasure. But that all changed when I swapped sticks with my good friend Lee and we both gave each other a Roly! Ha!

I knew Lee smoked good sticks and the other sticks he gave me reflected that. The sticks I gave him were a bit more humble but good – at least to me – nonetheless. But we both had a laugh at the Roly because they were such a contrast in price to the other sticks we swapped.

We both agreed that irrespective of the price, these sticks are delicious! I’ve only had the Habano which is incredible, but I’ll get the Connecticut next time ’round to try those.

I think what makes these cigars so special is that even though these are made from leftovers from premium cigars, they’re not your typical fumas. They use long fillers and not cuttings as in a Cuban sandwich, so they smoke like a premium cigar, but at a fraction of the price.

Don’t get me wrong, I have some fumas that are fantastico! And frankly, when it comes down to it, it’s all about taste. But it’s cool to find a cigar that is rolled like a premium and pay less than two bucks for it!

And speaking of taste, this medium-body smoke has lots to offer. There’s a nuttiness throughout with a hint of leather. About halfway into the stick, some earthy forest floor arises, along with a hint of black pepper. Mind you, it’s not a super-complex smoke, but it’s more complex than another favorite, the Cusano M1.

Finally, what I really dig about this smoke is that it doesn’t get me high with over-the-top amounts of nicotine. To me, a great smoke gets you into a mellow space, but doesn’t knock you on your ass. This is why I gravitate towards more mellow to medium-body smokes.
