Do two extra rings make a difference? One would think not, but in the case of the DTT Umbagog Bronzeback, it makes a surprisingly big difference.

I wrote about the original back in July of 2025, and loved it. But once I tried the Robusto, it was game over for me. What got me to love this one even more was that it was much more balanced. The original has a distinct red pepper spice. But the extra two rings on the Robusto smooths out the spice and lets the other flavors in the profile shine.

As of this writing, it has been three months since I purchased the 10-pack. I had one a week after receiving them, then a couple over the last three months. But even smoking one a week after receiving them, I knew that I would prefer this vitola over the Rothschild. But let’s get into the review.

As expected from DTT, construction is flawless with small veins and barely visible seams. The cigar is Tatuaje-level packed! Saka didn’t skimp on the tobacco. As such the stick is like a baton.

As far as the profile is concerned, it’s generally the same flavors as the Rothschild: coffee, cacao, stone fruit, cedar, vanilla, toffee, black pepper, red pepper spice. But with slightly less pepper influence from the wrapper, the other flavors come to the forefront. But on top of that, floral notes and a creamy consistency – especially in the second half – come forward.

The flavors established, complexity reigns supreme with this stick. They constantly shift in the first half, then calm down. But then the flavors intensify throughout the second half. It’s very pleasing to smoke this cigar!

As with the original, the nicotine level in this stick is no joke. Luckily, it’s a slow roller and stays lit. This is one of those sticks that I really monitor my puff rate. Going too fast will make me high. But despite the nicotine, it’s the creaminess that I love about this smoke. It just smooths everything out. And while I like red pepper spice, the fact it’s much more subdued in this vitola makes me enjoy this cigar immensely.

Like I said before – and I constantly say this about Paul Stulac sticks – the Umbagog Bronzeback has no business being this flavorful and complex at this price point. This is a sub-$8 stick! But hey! No complaints here. I’ve just been buying the shit out of these! In addition to the 10-pack I got in November, I’ve got two more stewing. Yeah, I love this stick!

And smoke time? It varies depending on what I’m doing while I’m smoking, but the average is time for me has been 1:15-1:30.

Known as "Goofydawg" for decades, a few years ago, I reinvented myself from the geeky image I used to portray to that of a patrician whose life has been refined from experience. And I realized that I'm at the time of my life where I want to share that experience and hopefully pass on some of the knowledge and wisdom I've gained over the years.
