CAO Amazon Basin Dagger Update

Okay, lesson learned. I know, I’m supposed to let cigars rest a while before smoking them. Some require at least a month or even two before they’re enjoyable. But with the Dagger, curiosity got the better of me and I smoked it way too early. I wasn’t that impressed with it writing, “I appreciate the flavor and the strength of this, but I don’t really appreciate the price being asked for it. At $5/stick, considering it doesn’t have that exotic nor uniqueness to it and it’s petite corona (and that’s being generous), I don’t see the value.”

I also mentioned that the experience wasn’t exotic nor unique. I was wrong. Very wrong. Now that I’ve let the rest of the pack sit a month, I’m shaking my head at how wrong I was in the first place. These are delicious! As for being exotic and unique? Yeah, there’s definitely an exotic vibe going on with it.

Where I mentioned the usual suspects of coffee, toffee, and black pepper, yes, they’re still there. BUT with some age, I got teak wood, nutmeg, berries, and an indistinct floral note. When I tasted these flavors, I stopped, and said, “Holy shit! This is SO different from what I originally smoked. I love it!”

Now, the operative question is: Are these worth what is being charged for them? To be honest, I’m still not sure. At $5 a stick, I think it’s still asking a lot for a 4 X 38 stick. But I’d be willing to pay $4 for a stick. Famous has an upright of ten packs for $199 and that brings the price down to $3.98/stick. That works for me. But I’m not sure if I’d want to get fifty of these. I love them for sure, but when I think of what I can get for $199 that I like better than these, it gives me pause.

Known as "Goofydawg" for decades, a few years ago, I reinvented myself from the geeky image I used to portray to that of a patrician whose life has been refined from experience. And I realized that I'm at the time of my life where I want to share that experience and hopefully pass on some of the knowledge and wisdom I've gained over the years.
