What Is It About the Umbagog Bronzeback?

When I first read Katman’s review of the Umbagog Bronzeback, I immediately bought a 10-pack. I had been searching for a suitable alternative to my beloved Undercrown Maduro and reading his review was timely. It’s not that I stopped liking the UC, but I wanted to expand my daily driver selections. You see, though I have lots of premium cigars, I don’t like to smoke them too often. Honestly, it’s not too cost-effective to be smoking $10-$15 cigars on a daily basis. So, I have a variety of daily drivers with different flavor profiles that will appeal to my mood at any time.

But the Bronzeback has proven to transcend my moods. I can be in any mood and the Bronzback will fit it. There’s a certain mojo about it that makes it appealing to me any time. For an $8 cigar ($78 for a 10-pack at Atlantic), it is far more complex than it should be. Like the original Umbagog, it’s an ass-kicker. But the Bronzeback – at least to me – is so much more refined and sophisticated in every way.

If I were to compare it to another cigar, I would say that the experience I have with it is akin to the experience I have with the Paul Stulac Post Script. Yes, two completely different blends, but for me, the experience is similar. I could smoke either one of these at any time and be happy.
