If someone asked me what my favorite brand was, without hesitation I’d say it was Tatuaje. I’ve smoked many of the blends and vitolas and I haven’t had a bad smoke yet. But out of all of them, the brown labels are my favorite. One would think they’d have a similar profile, but they’re all very different. But one thing is the same among the blends: They’re all very balanced.
My personal favorite blend is the 7th Habano. Complex and a little bit spicy, it is my go-to Tatuaje. Unfortunately, they ran out at the shop I’m at today, so I decided to go with the Selección de Cazador in the Regios size.
This is a cigar that I haven’t had as often as the other brown labels, but it’s a good one, nonetheless. The foundation for the entire smoke is cedar, from light-up to nub. Other flavors dance around like oak, black pepper, coffee, floral notes, cream, toffee, burnt sugar, leather, nutmeg, and even a hint of mint at times. The aroma off the end of the stick has a teak wood scent about it. It’s very pleasing, like walking into a CostPlus store (that’s what I was reminded of).
Transitions are numerous, though subtle, which is why I’m not breaking up these notes into thirds. That wouldn’t do it justice, although I will say that the final third introduced a mild red pepper spiciness that was very pleasing that wasn’t present in the first two thirds.
The different Tatuaje blends amaze me with their uniqueness. The 7th is all about balance and at least to me, reminds me of a great Cuban. This stick, on the other hand is a shifting palate of flavors; nicely complex without going over the top. I realize I haven’t said much about it, but I’m not sure there’s more to be said. I love it!
