Though I do get some visits to this site, I don’t write reviews for anyone’s benefit but my own. If my reviews help folks out that’s great, but that’s not my aim with this blog. As the name of the blog indicates, this is my stogie diary. I started it as a way for me to record my thoughts and feelings about the different sticks I smoke, and if a cigar is interesting to me, I write about it; sometimes a few times.
But looking back on the cigars I’ve written about over the past year, I realized that they’re really nothing special. That is, most aren’t exotic or rare or expensive. It’s not that I don’t smoke expensive cigars. I do at times. But my approach to cigars is a little different than others’.
As a daily smoker, and oftentimes multiple times a day, I have to be sensitive to the expense of this hobby. So I look for cigars that punch way above their weight for the price that I pay for them. Take, for instance, the humble La Gloria Cubana Serie R. That’s a cigar that can be obtained for less than $3/stick, but it’s flavor rivals many cigars that cost five times as much!
The Drew Estate Undercrown Maduro is another great-tasting stick that can be had at a reasonable price. All the sticks in my regular rotation cigars are typically no more than $5/stick, if that. CAO Brazilia? I got a box of 20 for $56! And that’s a cigar that A LOT of people love.
I’m on a quest to find great-tasting cigars at a reasonable price. I will occasionally indulge in a high-end stick like my beloved Padron ’64. But for the most part, I just want to sit for at least an hour and enjoy a good smoke. And a good smoke can be had for cheap.
