And that’s the regular Oliva V.
If you go on Reddit or other cigar forums, when it comes to the “V,” everyone talks about the Melanio. It’s a great cigar. I bought into the hype so much I bought boxes of both the Melanio and the Melanio Maduro. I thoroughly enjoyed them.
But I had a couple each of the regular V and V Maduro sitting in storage that I hadn’t touched, so last week, I thought I’d spark them up to see how they stand up, since I’m now out of all my Melanios.
I first started out with the V Maduro. Wow! It was fantastic! Really deep, rich flavors and nicely complex without being overwhelming. It was a very nice accompaniment to the Añejo Cachaça I had.
Then I lit up the regular V. And I had to do a double take because it was like smoking a Padron ’64 Natural. No, not as rich, but very lush and rich with a slight red pepper spice that gave the flavor profile a brightness. Yeah, I nubbed that bugger. It was an incredibly enjoyable smoke. I’m going to get a box of these! While I really loved the V Maduro, there was something about the overall balance of the V that really hit home for me. I smoked the other one last Friday.
The funny thing is that I’ve smoked all of the line several times. As I mentioned above I had a box each of the Melanio and Melanio Maduros, but I’ve had a few of the regular V and V Maduro. Returning back to the regular ones, I had forgotten just how good they were, especially the standard V. Say what you want about Cigar Aficionado and their ratings, but it’s no surprise that they rated it 95 and #5 Cigar of the Year in 2022. It’s that good!
So y’all can have your Melanios. I’ll be smoking the V… and the O Maduro… and the G and G Maduro… 🙂
