I’ve eschewed short-filler and Cuban sandwich cigars not because they’re bad, but simply because I can get hand-rolled long-filler cigars for just a bit more. But I do make one exception, and that’s the RP Cargo. It’s not going to win any beauty contests, nor will it win awards for complexity of transitioning flavors. But when I want an uncomplicated, medium-body, and enjoyable smoke, I turn to this cigar and the Roly, though I have been gravitating toward this one more.
It’s a cheap cigar. And I have procured these in the past for about a dollar or two a stick and I always have a bundle of these on hand. This flies in the face of most aficionados but as a daily smoker, there are many times I don’t want to be distracted by the cigar I’m smoking as a premium stick would do. And that’s not just yard work – hell, I don’t even work in my yard. I have a gardener for fuck’s sake! Sorry, but all those dudes on the forums that call cheapos “yard-gars” just annoy me.
When I’m working from home, busy with meetings and writing, I just want a cigar that tastes good, and more importantly, doesn’t pull me into contemplating its virtues. I don’t want it complex, but I do want some flavor. That’s why this and the Roly are perfect in that respect. They taste great to me and don’t take my mind off what I’m doing. That they are cheap is just icing on the cake.
