Just after 6:00 p.m. last night I put a full packer brisket on my Traeger smoker. The weather was really cold and my smoker ran a lot cooler than normal. As a result, my meat is taking a long time to finish. But all is not lost because I can wait it out by having a few cigars.
Luckily, my wife and I spent this past week preparing the house for all the kids coming home, so there’s not much to do as far as cleaning is concerned. The great thing about that is that even though she sees me sitting out on our back bench smoking stogies, she’s not nagging me to get shit done.
It’s not that I’ve been sitting here idle the entire time. Even that would be too much for me. But that hasn’t stopped me from lighting up some good cigars while the meat smokes and I get everything prepared for our dinner this Christmas Eve.
Last night I smoked an Oliva Black Swan and a Guy Fieri Knuckle Sandwich Maduro. This morning, my first cigar was a roller’s blend from Martinez cigars. I followed up that one with the gorgeous Oliva Serie O shown in the picture to the left.
That’ll probably be it until after dinner because I have to sing at two Christmas Eve Masses and I don’t want to have a raspy voice so I need to give my throat a little bit of a rest.
And after our family festivities, the men will go to the backyard, build a fire in our fire pit, and I will break out the cigars.
Life is good.
