I’m sitting in my backyard enjoying an MB 3 and I got to wondering why it doesn’t get as much recognition as the Series V Melanio Maduro. I’ve seen comments online where some people even think the MB 3 is a cheap smoke and not the premium smoke that it is.

It’s because they can be acquired less expensively through specials and on auction sites like CigarBid. For instance, I got a couple of 5-packs off Cigar Page for less than $40, so the perception is that it’s an inexpensive cigar. But it’s a different story with B&M retailers where it is sold as a super-premium, right up there with the V at $25+/stick. As one commenter in a thread I recently read said, “Don’t think that just because you can get these for a good price online that it means this isn’t a premium cigar. It’s not sold that way at B&Ms.”

For me, this is NOT an everyday cigar even though I can get them at a great price. It’s just too rich for me to smoke daily. With my daily cigars, I will power through them or if time doesn’t permit, I’ll let them burn out then even do multiple re-lights. But for my premium sticks, I like to sit for a long time and smoke them in one sitting. And this is a premium stick!

And with all the attention on the V Melanio, the MB 3 is like Cinderella. It’s the beautiful one that no one notices. That’s not to say the V Melanio is an ugly stepsister. But as in the fairy tale, it gets all the attention while Cinderella is overlooked.
