Today was an active and productive day for me. I started the day chipping away at the mess in my garage, hit a large bucket of golf balls (that did NOT go well), then smoked and seared a nice London Broil for dinner, served with my special onion and mustard steak sauce. So what better way to wind down than to have a nice cigar and enjoy the dusk as nighttime approaches.
My wind-down smoke for today is a Montecristo White Label Especial #3 (Corona). This cigar has become one of my favorites, along with the Macanudo Inspirado White, which is remarkably like the Monte White. I’ve got a bunch of each on hand and will always keep several in stock because I’ve been going through them.
And no, I didn’t pay retail. Holy shit! At $278 for a box of 25, they aren’t cheap. But thank goodness there’s CigarPage! I was able to score a 20-pack for $95.00! I’ve lost a couple of bids on CigarBid that went for even lower, so they’re accessible.
These are such well-made cigars. To date, I haven’t had one that has required a touch-up yet. The stick I’m smoking right now has a razor-straight burn line. It’s a gorgeous cigar with super-smooth wrapper. It is dense and built solidly. And for me, it has the most consistent draw from stick to stick. I realize that aesthetics mean nothing if the taste isn’t up to par, but I absolutely adore the taste of this stick’s smoke!
The smoke is on the milder side, but the uncanny thing is that each draw produces lots of smoke which one might think would drive up the strength, but it doesn’t. All these things, the aesthetics, the smoke, the flavor, all add up to a sublime experience that brings me to my happy place. When I smoke a cigar like this, I don’t have a care in the world! And THAT is the way to wind down the day.
