Holy shit! Yet another Oliva that I will be keeping in my humidor! I absolutely LOVE the maduro wrapper. It provides a nice, dark contrast to the otherwise medium body of the smoke.
At first, I was a little baffled at the size since it was listed as a robusto. But it’s box-pressed, so the whole thing is compact. Tell you what, that intensifies the flavors. And this stick is packed with flavor!
I knew I was in for a treat when I smelled the cigar before I lit it up. There was grassiness and earthiness – very pleasing. And upon lighting I was immediately hit with nuts and toast which completely took me by surprise. Amazingly enough, the toast lingers through the finish! But this is a smoke that is all about earth tones like forest floor, mushrooms, wet leaves. There’s nothing bright about this cigar whatsoever save for a hint of baking spice on the finish.
And another contradiction is that the dark maduro wrapper belies the relative mildness of its strength. This is a medium-body cigar and stays that way throughout the smoke, just increasing in strength ever so slightly in the last third. It’s also super-smooth, so smooth that it’s hard to detect the smoke as it enters my mouth.
Truth be told, as I’m writing this, I’m actually smoking my second stick that I received as a gift from a friend. It’s a Churchill. It’s the same taste I remember from my first “G,” just longer and a smaller gauge. And as with the first, the nicotine is very light in this stick; yet another reason I enjoy it so much. So now, I’ve got the “O” and the “G” maduro to enjoy! Love it!
Yeah, I will be getting more. It may be that my humidor and bags will consist primarily of Oliva cigars!

Update 11/2/2023: I’m sitting in my backyard enjoying a cool Fall morning with a strong cup of coffee and another G Maduro Churchill. I originally got this one in yet another CI sampler a few months ago. When I took my first notes of this stick a couple of weeks ago, I didn’t mention that there was a certain quality about it that reminded me of another cigar, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. But this morning, it hit me. This cigar is reminiscent of the Master Blends III! It’s that spicy, teak wood aroma and flavor that, at least to me, is the earmark of the MB III. Oliva must use a similar leaf in the G that is used in the MB III to give it this quality. It’s exotic and quite lovely! It’s not as strong in the G, but it’s there, adding to the complexity of this cigar.
