When you think of Cuban cigars, there are iconic names such as Cohiba or Montecristo and, of course, Romeo y Julieta. There’s a reason they’re iconic. They have a history of making damn good cigars, no matter what country they happen to make them in. For Romeo y Julieta, the other country of which they’ve become synonymous is the Dominican Republic (DR).
I love me a good DR cigar. My experience with them has been full-flavored, mellow cigars. Combine that mellowness with the storied history of quality from Romeo y Julieta, and what you get is a freakin’ awesome smoke.
Talk about gorgeous! There are no visible seams and only small veins on the wrapper. The first thing I thought when I took a look at the cigar was this is so well made and constructed! But you can never judge a book by its cover just as you can never judge a stogie by its wrapper. You’ve to light it up and let the magic happen. And the experience with smoking this cigar is truly magical.
It’s all flavor with very little nicotine. Even getting down to the last third, though the taste and heat intensify, I don’t get knocked out with a huge nic-hit. The burn is slow and even. It’s a smoke that you want to spend a little time with.
Oh yeah… I’ll be getting more of these. And even though they’re on the affordable end of the scale for such a marque, this cigar is still special enough to be considered a premium cigar. Smoking one of these transport me to my happy place.
