Here’s to the start of another blog! Truth be told, I’ve been smoking cigars for a long time. But I haven’t really had the funds to support the hobby until recently. Or maybe I just didn’t really want to spend the money on them. But after going to Cozumel Mexico for vacation, and smoking pretty cheap cigars, I realized that I actually enjoy the whole experience of smoking a cigar.
And even though I smoke cigars usually with some sort of alcohol, my last time in New York City taught me that cigars go great with a good cup of coffee. So thinking about those two trips, I got this urge to start smoking cigars more regularly.
On top of that a good friend of mine Jorge Coca is a cigar aficionado. And every time he comes over to the house he usually comes bearing a few cigars. And these aren’t cheap cigars.
So all that together drove me to where I am right now. I just purchased a small electric humidor and I bought probably more than that humidor can hold so I’m going to have to figure out how to store them but that’s okay. I may have to actually buy a bigger one. I can bring that small one to the office to share with folks.
As I write this, I’m smoking a cigar from the first batch that I had delivered. This is an inexpensive but very tasty cigar from Puros Indios called a Roly Habano. If I’m not mistaken it uses all Dominican long filler wrapped with a Habano wrapper. I get the smoothness of the Dominican tobacco with the spiciness of the wrapper. It goes so well with my bourbon on the rocks.
So what is this blog going to be about? Unlike my wine and guitar sites, I don’t want this to be a rating or review site. I definitely want to describe the flavors and aromas that I detect in the sticks I smoke, but I don’t want to qualify them with some numerical rating. This is going to be a diary for me to help me remember what I really enjoy.
Also unlike my other sites, I don’t think I’m going to be riding long articles. My posts will be short. And I may provide pairings with different kinds of drinks.
